Applications invited for the position of Assistant Professor in Dept. of Physics

Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics under School of Mathematical Sciences.

The candidate should have the eligibility for direct recruitment at the Assistant Professor level as per UGC regulations and norms. We are looking for candidates with passion for teaching and research who will be capable of contributing substantially to the academic activities of our vibrant Department of Physics. Publications of high standard and ability for independent research as well as guiding/supervising students in their postgraduate dissertations and PhD theses are a sine qua non. Requirements as to the specialization in broad and specific areas as well as teaching capability in basic and advanced courses are as per the details given below.

Qualifications and Experience:

As per the latest UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers in Universities and Colleges and other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education.

Teaching and research experience as per UGC Regulations/norms for the direct recruitment of Assistant Professor.

Pay Scale: UGC scales of pay as per the recommendations of 7th CPC, adapted to and consistent with the West Bengal State norms.

Areas of expertise in research and teaching that we are looking for:

  1. Broad Areas of Specialization required: Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
  2. Specific Areas: Strongly correlated systems in the context of magnetism and superconductivity, metal insulator transitions, formation of new exotic phases and transitions between different phases, non-Fermi
    liquid behaviour, frustrated systems. Application of quantum field theory methods, Monte Carlo methods on the background of different lattice structures.

Teaching capability of Basic and Advanced courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels:

  1. Basic Courses: Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics), Mathematical Methods, Condensed Matter Physics.
  2. Advanced Courses: Advanced Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Field Theory.
