Department of Physics, RKMVERI, Belur Main Campus is inviting applications for admission to PhD programme in Physics.

NOTE:

  1. Admission notice updated on 10 Jul 2024.
  2. Applications are continuously accepted. They will be reviewed as per the convenience of the faculty-members.

Areas of Research:

  1. Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

  2. Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

    • Specific Topic : Strongly correlated phenomena in multi-orbital systems
    • Description : The purpose of this project is to study and understand the fascinating properties of multi-
orbital systems driven by strong electronic correlations. The single orbital Hubbard model has been the archetypal model for studying strongly correlated systems for a long time. While it has been very successful in understanding and explaining various properties of such systems over the years, the discovery and investigation of several transition metal based compounds with partially filled d-orbitals such as pnictides, nickelates, iridates and molybdates, have demonstrated the importance of considering several orbitals in their analysis. The addition of these extra orbitals results in a far more complex set of phenomena, driven by the interplay of orbital, charge, spin and lattice degrees of freedom in these systems. Using a combination of analytical and numerical techniques, we will study multi-orbital variants of the Hubbard model in order to explore and gain insight into these emergent properties, aiming to develop a comprehensive understanding of the rich and diverse phenomenology of these systems.
